VOLUNTEERS

We had over 600 (612) volunteers (not including including serveral hundred schoolchildren behind the scenes} working from January until July 2016 during 75+ mural painting sessions at the mural. The average number of participants was 16 people per session though some sessions were as large as 75 people at one time (this is a long wall!). Many volunteers came multiple times including several individuals who spent hundreds of hours. The largest group was UNCW students, faculty, and staff with 133 volunteers but the neighborhood provided 63 volunteers, and at-large community members volunteered (66).  Some groups sent large numbers of volunteers such as New Hanover County Schools (77), DREAMS Center for Arts (36) and Girl Scouts (23).  There were additional groups of students in New Hanover County Schools who did not come to paint the mural, but met with us or their art teachers to create art for the mural. To see the list of volunteer groups see here. See the photos of the wonderful people involved! Our public photo album can be seen at  https://goo.gl/photos/X7eVZuEpdPzqpEy69

Several schools sent in art from their student artists. Some had stories attached. Right now you can see the amazing art from some of the students at DC Virgo: https://goo.gl/photos/SpmdJuNRAPs7k8FR8 , or Cape Fear Center of Inquiry https://goo.gl/photos/hsLvWysjcWsfkF2s6 and the the TYPA-UNCW students https://goo.gl/photos/bW5ns9j94mLJjGyu5.
